Why?

Guys, perhaps you have wondered why girls always fall for the bad boy? Girls, perhaps you have wondered why you're always going after someone who treats your horribly?

The diagnosis? I found it.

Why Good Women Date Bad Guys

Don't say I never did anything for you.

Realization

Today while driving home from work, I had a realization I must share with you.

The NBA is like an abusive boyfriend. Mistreats me. Leads me on. Isn't available when I really need it in my life.

And then, just when it knows I'm about to build up courage to walk away, it comes crawling back with those puppy-dog eyes begging for forgiveness. Promising it'll change and this time it'll be better and that it'll never happen again.

And I fell for it. Because I love it.

This Was Such A Good Find

I'm in love with this man because he loves Friday Night Lights as much as I do.

The life lessons he took away from the show?

1. Relish the Underdog Role

2. A Man Needs to Come to Peace With His Father

3. Nurture Manliness

4. A Man Seeks Redemption

5. Texas Forever (Never forget where you came from)

6. A Man's Closest Ally is His Wife

7. A Man Needs a Team

8. Clear Eyes, Full Heart, Can't Lose

Seriously, if you're a fan of the show, go read this article. And if you're not, go watch the whole series and then go read this article.

Literally gave me chills reading it. Literally.

Basketball Never Stops

As a lover of the NBA and Advertising, I am in LOVE with this spot. Especially because it features Dirk shooting some wicked shots.

I would absolutely kill to be involved in making spots like this. Please, please let me get a job working on a sports-related client at some point in my career.

Also, the NBA should consider themselves SO lucky that brands like Nike and Under Armour are making sure that people still love the game of basketball and pro athletes. I just want to see my Mavs get their rings! Is that so much to ask??

It Is Time...

Welcome to the holiday season, friends! Halloween marks the beginning of my absolute favorite time of year! It's also the time of year when the highly domestic side of me comes out. So, nights like tonight happen. Where I make these:

And I make this:

The caramel popcorn is DELICIOUS. Perfect as a snack or for those festive holiday parties I know you'll all start throwing. So, what? You want the recipe? Ok, I'll send you over to where I got it from.

I Won't Grow Up

I see things like this and I say to myself, "I HAVE to have that."

I mean, come on. It has a tower with a rock-climbing wall. There's a secret room inside that can only be accessed through a hidden entry in the fireplace. AND the eyes in the portrait over the fireplace slide open so you can spy out of it! SERIOUSLY! Where was this when I was a small child? I mean, it's only about $7,000...

See? I'm Not the Only One...

So usually I include songs with my blog posts. This time I have a post solely about a song. I was listening to the radio yesterday and heard this song. I don't even like country music that much so it must have been destined that I hear this.

She was starin' out the window of their SUV
Complainin', sayin', "I can't wait to turn eighteen"
She said, "I'll make my own money and I'll make my own rules"
Momma put the car in park out there in front of the school
And she kissed her head and said, "I was just like you"

You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days
Hadn't gone by so fast.

These are some good times
So take a look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this

Clearly I've only made it past the graduating high school and moving on to college part, but it's good to know that it is ok to miss those times. Thanks for helping me feel better about that, Trace.

Feel better, Katie Walton? Me too.

I've Been Wondering...

Where in the world did the Texas Rangers Claw and Antlers come from? Since I was in Provo through their path to the World Series last year, it wasn't easy to track the evolution of these signs.

So, naturally, I Googled for the answer. And I found it. And I know some of you are wondering where it came from too because I asked you and you didn't know the answer. So, here's an article where you can read all about it.

Second consecutive World Series appearance! Go Rangers!

Yes, Please.

Now I know how to drink wine. But most importantly, now I really want to go to Sicily.

In other news. I turned 23 on Thursday. And I feel weird about that.

I'm a PRETTY Big Deal

So when people search for certain things on Google, they're referred to my blog. Would you like to see what some of those things are?

I think my personal favorites are "ryan gosling gay" and "is ryan gosling gay?" Awesome.

And all because I walked with him in SoHo one night...

I love these TV spots. How could you not?

I Can't BELIEVE I'm Saying This...

Congrats to all my BYU friends on beginning yet another semester of school today. I have to admit that it feels REALLY weird to not be there with all of you. I feel a little... lost.

And believe it or not (I can't even believe it actually...) there are things I'm going to miss about Provo/Utah. Such as:

-Hooker/Plastic/EFY Hangouts
-Bonfires in the canyon
-Cafe Rio (Chicken Tostada Wednesday!)
-Having legitimate reasons to wear boots
-Family dinners at Aunt Nancy's
-My own place (I love you, family.)
-Running into 50 people while at Smith's on Saturday night
-Dinners with the boys
-Pizza Factory's breadtwists
-Snow tubing
-OTH Tuesday-night viewing parties
-Hanging out in the AdLab with a bunch of crazy Advertising kids

But it's ok. I have plenty of new adventures ahead of me. I just have to go out there and find them. Lots of great "Memories" (David Guetta feat. Kid Cudi) to look back on.

Better Late Than Never...

I forgot to wish my blog a happy one-year anniversary! I never thought it would happen, but I successfully kept up my blog for over a year now!

I love you, blog. It's been a great year together.

Your congratulations and best wishes are welcomed.

It's been a while since I've had a song to accompany a post so for this one I'm going to go with "Just Can't Get Enough" because I know that's how you all feel about my blog. You just can't get enough of it can you?

Beginning the Journey to a More Cultured Kari

I don't know what the deal is but I just haven't been reading like I normally do during the summer. Since I'm no longer a student, I really should have lots more time to read books that I actually want to read. So, I have decided to become more cultured and start reading a lot again.

Some of you gave me suggestions as to books that I can add to my list. So far, this is what I've gathered from all of you (along with some ideas of my own):

-The Buddha in the Attic
-The Road
-The Poisonwood Bible
-To Kill a Mockingbird
-The Help
-Of Mice and Men
-Kite Runner
-Unbroken

If you have some suggestions that I could add to the list, feel free to make them. Or feel free to steal a couple ideas from my list. That's why I posted it after all...

My Parents Created a Monster

Whoever says it's rough to be the youngest child, you're full of it. I don't believe it for one second. My older sister and I remember the days when our family vacation consisted of my parents driving us to the airport, turning around and going home, unplugging the telephones, and my mom leaving chocolates on our pillows like the maid service in hotels do. My younger sister on the other hand produced this gem of a quote while we were in San Antonio visiting Sea World.

Upon arriving at our Hampton Inn in San Antonio and stepping into the elevator:

"Oh. My. Gosh. This place is so ghetto. It only has 5 floors!!"

And that's what happens when your little sister grows up with Marriott Reward Points her whole life.

Old Navy, I Swear...

Your advertising kills me. And this new ad is no exception. I mean, eew. I don't want to hear about your jeans being on sale to the tune of "Let's Talk About Sex." That's just weird.

You should really re-think what you've got going on. You're lucky that your brand is such an American institution or you could really be in trouble with all this crap you've been pulling the past few years.

So, yeah. I'm going to let you guys watch it. Just in case you haven't seen it. I hope you're not too emotionally scarred.

Fast Sunday

Today was Fast Sunday which equals testimony meeting in the world of Mormonism (for those of you who may not be aware). I went to church with my little sister since my parentals are currently out of town and really felt like I wanted to bear my testimony during Sacrament meeting but there just wasn't enough time and I always feel bad taking up time in other wards.

So, I thought to myself... "Why not share my testimony on my blog?" It's kind of a step out there for me but I share so many other parts of my life with all of you I figure why not share this absolutely vital part of my life too?

So, if I had gotten up and born my testimony it would have gone a little something like this...

I'm at a point in my life right now where there are lots of big decisions that need to be made. I just graduated from college a few months ago. I went and worked in New York for a couple of months. And now I'm trying to figure out what to do next with my life.

As I've been contemplating these big decisions, I've begun to re-evaulate my discipleship and how well I prioritize the gospel among the other things in my life. I decided I needed to take inventory of how I'm doing in my life spiritually. EFY played a rather large role in that. My own personal little spiritual re-boost. And as I evaluated where I'm at on my road of discipleship, I noticed that the small things in my life were beginning to slip. My scripture study and prayers were not as frequent and meaningful as they usually are which was in turn affecting every other aspect of my life.

One of the things I miss the most being in a singles ward is hearing all of the pure and simple testimonies of the little kids. They have such basic and sincere testimonies of the gospel. Testimonies of the building blocks if you will. And sometimes we get so caught up in the eloquence of our testimonies that we forget to bear testimony of those small and simple things. We forget to bear pure testimony.

I know that reading and pondering and studying the scriptures can bring us closer to our Heavenly Father. I know that sincere prayer can help us to know that we are children of God and that we have a divine nature. And once I realized that I needed to make those things a priority in my life again, everything else seemed to fall into place and my relationship with my Heavenly Father was once again strengthened.

So, I encourage you. If you are not having meaningful scripture study and prayer, make those things a priority in your life. You will see HUGE changes in the rest of your life if you do.

I feel wrong having Britney playing as you're reading my testimony so how about one of my favorite hymns instead?

I Want My House to Literally Be a Pig Pen

I have recently decided that I want a pet pig when I get a place of my own. Not one of those huge, blue-ribbon-winning pigs you find at the county fair, but a miniature one.

I mean, just go to this website and then try to tell me that these things wouldn't make adorable pets.

http://www.teacuppigsforsale.com/

Also, I've heard they're cleaner than dogs. Can you imagine?

So, if you'd like to donate to my Pig Adoption Fund, your donations would be more than welcome. I've gotta find an extra $5,000 to get one. Totally do-able right?

Sometimes My Dad Says Hilarious Stuff

For example. At lunch yesterday while talking about baby names with my older sister, my dad throws out this little gem:

"You could name her Hoser. We could call her Ho for short."

Imagine incredible bouts of laughter proceeding such a comment coming from my father's mouth.

I just love my dad.

Let's Go Mavs!

I mean, I don't know whether you heard or not, but the Mavs won the NBA Championship a week ago. And to celebrate, they had a nice little parade for me when I got home so we could all enjoy the great news together. Ok, so it wasn't "little." It was actually pretty packed with people. But if there's one thing I've always said, it's the more the merrier!

Here are some pics:

These guys parked right by us. And it was awesome.

Dear old Mark, holding up the trophy. Who knows where that thing has been at this point?

JJ and Shawn Marion. Adorable and dead sexy, in that order.

There he is. "The Custodian."

Tyson Chandler. Caron's there too. In. Love.

Last but certainly not least, MVP! Also, you can see JET showing off his tattoo to the other side of the street. Dodged a bullet on that one dear.

Last Official New York Post.

I'm sad to announce that this will be my last post under the "New York Edition" title. Can you believe those 7 weeks went by so quickly? They just FLEW by for me. So many great memories from New York. Great people. Great fun. Great food. Great times. It will always have a special place in my heart.

Because I spent about 2 months there, I want to share some of my favorite events/places with you so that when you visit, you can partake in some of the wonderful stuff I had an opportunity to.

Good Eats:

Patsy's Pizza
Numero 28 Pizza (West Village)
Dos Toros (Union Square)
The Counter (Times Square)
Artichoke Pizza (14th between 1st and 2nd?)
Dinosaur BBQ (125th)
Sylvia's (Lenox and... 127th?)
The Burger Joint (in Le Meridian)
Do the make-your-own pasta at any Europa Cafe. One of my favorite lunch options.
Thai food anywhere that looks Thai-ish
La Esquina (106 Kenmare St)
Elmo Restaurant and Lounge (delicious brunch menu, but it's really only popular for "ladies day out" if you're picking up what I'm throwing down...)
Any food from Trader Joe's (most especially the salted dark chocolate covered almonds)

I might think of more if you ask me, but that's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

Fun Things to Do:

Walk High Line Park
Hang out in Central Park on the weekend (lots of great people-watching)
Events down at the piers
Watching Top Gun on the deck of the Intrepid (Ok, so maybe you will never be able to do this, but it was super fun and I want to share it with you.)
Chelsea Market
Strand Bookstore
Atlantic City (especially when it only costs you $5 to go)
Walking Riverside Park
Hanging around the Lower East Side (lots of groovy-looking people to stare at)
Karaoke
Mets Game
Go to Trader Joe's and try to convince them to cut a watermelon in half for you
Lots of celebrity sightings in SoHo
Brooklyn
Lunch in Bryant Park

Again, these are just a few things we experienced. So much more to do.

Basically, I loved my time in New York. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything. And now I'm ready to return to the real world and begin the search for my grown-up job!

Real Men Don't Dress Like This...

I apologize to those of you who find my advertising-related blog posts boring. But I feel like you'll enjoy these new ads from Old Navy. I think they're just hilarious. WAY better than the Supermodelquins and their "original song" ads.

First up, Supar Tool.

Next up, Corporado.

I'm Rich!

Well, I'm $6.20 richer than when I left for Atlantic City on Saturday. Yes, the epic trip to Atlantic City took place this weekend. And it was surprisingly fun. Part of that may have had to do with the fact that it cost us $5 for a round-trip bus ticket on a luxury liner (it really was luxurious), $10 worth of food, and $5 for slots.

I would tell you more about what happened but... what happens in Atlantic City stays in Atlantic City.If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

Everyone's Run Out of Ideas.

That's the only reason I can think of as to why there are so many similar ads floating around these days. People, you have got to start coming up with your own, original ideas. Or else stuff like this happens.

First, these ads from Nissan and Renault.

Eerily similar, no?

And then Audi apparently thought it would be a great idea to rip off one of the best commercials of the year, Chrysler's "Imported From Detroit" spot from the Superbowl.

Wrong! Bad idea, Audi. And now you're getting sued for it.

So, lesson of the day. COME UP WITH YOUR OWN IDEAS! It never looks good when you copy someone else's.

I'm Like a Proud Mother...

Came across this WTA ad on AdFreak this morning. Thought I'd share it...

That song in the background? It's by Civil Twilight. You may have heard me rave about them before. But they're my favorite. I love them. And I just feel so proud of them when I hear their music being used in stuff like this. They deserve it.

So, shout out to you Steve, Andrew, and Rich. What big deals you're becoming.

Oh, what? You want to hear the whole song? Ok, it's playing for you right now...

And the Winner Is...

I'm sure some of you are thinking right now, "Wait. What? Kari had a contest on her blog? How did I miss that? Was I entered without even knowing it? If so, did I win?"

Stop freaking out. Right now. Because you weren't eligible for this contest. So quit having anxiety about it.

No, this contest is all about being adequately prepared for the summer heat. So far, the weather in New York has been beautiful. And still is. But I can feel the heat starting and... I just have to say that Texas knows how to handle the heat of summer way better. As in, "Let us blast chill you as soon as you walk into our building. Oh, the AC isn't enough? How about a fan? There are also 50 pools you may choose to cool off in."

So, big surprise. I'm awarding Texas with the prize of being the "Best-Prepared State for Hot Hotness." I'm sure there are other states you would see fit to win the award but... come on, people. I'm from Texas. Of course it's going to win. Stop being ridiculous.

So, stay cool, friends. Both figuratively and literally.

This Avatar is Way Cooler Than Those Creepy Blue Aliens...

I wish I could dance like this. And I wish I had my own Kinect avatar that could dance like this alongside me.

More Strange New York Sights

It never ends, folks.

Who knew that a skunk and a chicken could be friends? And could start a band together?

Then there were the prisoners at Union Square. (Note: These were not real prisoners.)

And this guy. Businessman during the week. Karaoking street-performer on the weekends. Notice his sweet karaoke system all set up, he's reading the lyrics off an iPad, and his cell-phone holster. Also, I'm pretty positive he was singing some weird Spanish rave music. And you're going to have to turn your head to the side to watch it because I filmed it that way. Sorry.

So Long, World

So, I'm sure you're all aware that the world is ending tomorrow, Saturday, May 21. It's been a great run, World. I'm sorry we must part so soon. I guess if I have to be somewhere when the world ends, New York isn't a bad place to be...

Live it up tonight, friends. For it shall be our last.

Also, check out this post with 5 videos you must watch before tomorrow:

See you guys Monday.

Who Thought This Was a Good Idea?

So, my earlier post about interesting New York sights made me think about an ad I recently saw and read about from Honda. Some of you probably saw this ad while watching Glee this past week. And most of you were probably disturbed.

I just need to know. Why, Honda? Why would you make a creepy fluffy monster the star of your commercial? It's just... weird. Some of you in advertising may begin to think, "I wonder what their strategy was?" I would warn you against that because your mind starts to go in all these deep, dark, weird places.

So, if you ever find yourself in the position of creating car commercials, don't follow Honda's footsteps, please.

Interesting New York Sights

In a city with this many people you are bound to see some weird and interesting things.

Toto, we're not in Provo anymore. This I know because I've seen things like this:

And this:

Can't forget about this:

And who would have thought you would find a University of Utah shirt at a Forever 21 in NYC?

Celebrity Sightings

New York is full of celebrities. And we have had our fair share of sightings.

First was President Obama.

Next, Ryan Gosling.

Then, the gay assistant from Sweet Home Alabama, Nathan Lee Graham.

And finally, Gilles Marini.

Stop Hating Me.

I know. I know. I have been absolutely awful about updating my blog. But I've just been so busy going out and having adventures that I haven't had much time to come home and blog about them.

So, the next few days are going to be filled with several blog entries because there's just too much to put all in one post. It would be overwhelming. For you and I both.

So, strap in and get ready for this. I'll do the same.

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

Rainy Day in NYC.

And it kind of reminds me of home... just a solid field of umbrellas as far as the eye can see. It makes it hard to not just want to curl up under a blanket and catch up on shows all day.

Good thing I love working in Advertising...

Let's celebrate the rain Glee style...

I'm a New York Kind Of Girl.

Ok, well maybe not actually. But I am having a lot of fun pretending that I am so far! I know I said I would update the blog and I'm sorry it's been a few days, but I just got Internet in my bedroom! So I'm updating you now!

So, I rolled into town on Sunday night with my mom and aunt. We stayed in Times Square and wandered around there that night. Monday morning I checked in at our housing complex up on 125th (yes, I did say that. But don't worry, It's pretty safe up here). And when I walked into my room, I was shocked to find something so big! Take a look for yourself!

Then we went and found my office which is right by Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall. Not too shabby. And then we obviously had to walk up and down 5th Avenue. Then made our way over to Central Park and camped out there for a few hours. And then we walked over to the Lincoln Center to see that and the temple. You know, a pretty relaxing, not too crazy day.

Tuesday I met my mom and aunt at their hotel and then we headed down to the ferries to take us to Ellis Island. That was pretty sweet. We had been to see the Statue of Liberty before but not Ellis Island so that was new for me. Then we went to see Ground Zero which is always just amazing to see. And then I came home.

And then yesterday I woke up and went to my first day of work as a big girl! And now I'm working away as an intern at BBDO and it's great! I get to go to work at a sweet location at a super awesome agency who does great work. So, that's my life thus far.

I promise I'll update the exciting stuff more often so that you don't have to read it all in one post. I know it kind of hurts your eyes to see all these words.

And the song for this post. First thing that popped into my head was the idea that I'm now a big girl so I'm going to throw a little Fergie on here with "Big Girls Don't Cry."

Everything Must Come to an End at Some Point...

So, today was my final day of work as an undergraduate while at BYU. How weird. Now, new adventures await me in New York City. Crazy to think that it's been 4 years already. I don't feel that old! But it was real as ever when I went to pick up my cap and gown today. And here's how I feel about that...

Super weird. But I'm excited for what lies ahead! I'll miss all of you I'm leaving behind. We must must must keep in touch. Absolutely, 100 percent necessary. You hear me?

Saturday, April 9, 2011

New York, Here I Come!

So, yesterday I found out that in two weeks I will be moving to New York to begin the next phase of my life. What an adventure! I will be an intern at an advertising agency called BBDO New York. I mean, can't complain about that.

Probably most of you have never heard of BBDO before so here's a little taste of some of what they've done. You'll probably recognize the first video.

So yeah. That's where I'll be for at least 7 weeks this summer. Crazy. If you want to come to New York, feel free to come visit! And of course, this post wouldn't be complete without a little Jay-Z and Alicia. Obvious but appropriate.

Friday, April 8, 2011

It's Official.

Two weeks from today I will have already walked across the stage at my college graduation. How in the world did time fly by so quickly? How can it have already been four years?

Anyways. If you'll be around Provo, here's my announcement for you. You should totally come check me out in my cap and gown. Hot.

Sunday, April 3, 2011

Not Ok.

What is this?

Not ok, Utah. Not ok.

Friday, April 1, 2011

April Fool's!

First of all. How can it already be April?

Secondly, this morning I woke up with a black eye, "Bachelor Michelle" style. No idea where it came from.

Ok. Maybe not. Michelle couldn't even pull off that joke...

Saturday, March 19, 2011

Let the Graduation Festivities Begin.

Whoa guys. I literally graduate from college in just over a month. Weird.

So, I decided to guilt-trip my friends into coming to hang out with me at a bonfire last night. And it was SUPER fun. Wouldn't you agree, those of you who came? Mary even got out of her pajamas to come she heard it was so fun. And I got to see people I haven't seen in FOREVER.

And the party got even better when the popo showed up to yell at us for being there past 11 and for burning pallets. As we were dancing in a circle around the fire "Proposal"-style. Awesome. Playing the "girl card" totally works by the way. Never underestimate the power.

Should we go cheesy with the song selection again? I think we should. How about a little Sarah McLachlan - "I Will Remember You". Because mostly I want to know, "Will you remember me?"

Civil Twilight: Round 4

We were so close, Andrew and I could have held hands the whole show.

Would you like to hear some more Civil Twilight? Good. Because you're listening to them right now. As you're reading this.

BYU Hoops

I have a confession. And it is somewhat embarrassing. And no, it's not that I'm in love with Jimmer Fredette, although I do think he's great. It's worse than that... On Saturday I went to my first BYU basketball game ever. I know... I know. It's sad, pathetic, not right, disappointing... all of those things and more. But hey, better late than never, right? And just to prove to you how much school spirit I have, I have a picture to share with you.

Yup. I know... it's impressive. How about that awesome Cougar face I've got going on huh? And how about that 102-78 win? LET'S GO COUGARS!! Sweet 16?

Oh no... now I need another basketball song and I used the best one I know a couple of posts ago. How about... got it. "Remember the Name." Epic NBA commercial song... it's perfect.

Vivid Dreams

Ok, I'm one of those people who often remembers my dreams. They're typically very vivid and very real-feeling. Last night... I was married to (literally) the man of my dreams. He was tall and brown and super attractive. And we were madly in love and had a fabulous life together. Where are you tall, brown, attractive man? When will I find you in real life? When can we finally be together?

Also, we were best friends with Jim and Pam... I've been watching a lot of Season 6 lately. Don't judge me.

And yes. The song to accompany this post is "Dreaming of You" because sometimes I like to be overly cheesy. Ok?

"Take A Side"

As an Account Planner in Advertising, the strategy behind this new Miracle Whip ad is genius to me. They know that people either have a love or hate relationship with Miracle Whip, and they know that they won't be able to change your mind if you hate it. But they found a way to get you involved and talking about their product anyway . They've created a conversation about Miracle Whip of all things. It's now becoming a national debate. Love it? Or hate it?

So, the question is. Which side are you on?

Best High School Dunk Ever?

Uh. YEAH! Please check out this video. So, this kid is a senior at the high school I graduated from, FMHS. And this is from a game against our rival school, Marcus. Last game of the season this year. This dunk is... sick. There is simply no other word for it. I bet A&M is wetting their pants they're so excited to see this kid play in the NCAA next year.

And this video is currently trending on YouTube with almost 1.5 million views. How nuts is that?

Now I can say I went to the same school as Jordan Green and Jimmer Fredette? I feel even cooler just through association.

I wish I was a baller like Jordan...

Poor Milk...

I saw this Target commercial the other day and thought it was just the cutest and most tender thing I've seen in a while.

I totally know the feeling, little girl.

Sometimes I say some pretty quotable things...

Like this for example.

"I feel like you become diseased after EFY...like it overtakes your body. My body is not my own anymore...it belongs to EFY. EFY consumes me."

Thanks for thinking I'm funny, Mare Bear.

As We Go On, We Remember...

All the times we shared together. Yeah. I just quoted Vitamin C's "Graduation (Friends Forever)." No big deal. Well, actually, it is a big deal because I'm graduating from college in a couple of months. And I ordered my cap and gown today. See?

Crazy right? I can't believe it. I still feel like I'm 19 years old (and apparently still look it...). I just feel weird about graduating from college and going to get a big girl job. But it's coming for me, ready or not.

And yes, apparently those of us under 200 pounds are lumped into one category. We all get to wear the same size tent. And no, I am not actually 5'10", but it asked for my height with shoes ok?

Nerdy Music Crush...

Yup. I'll admit it. I'm a music nerd. And you know what? I am TOTALLY ok with that. And I totally have a nerdy composer crush on the one and only Eric Whitacre. And I'm going to see a concert all about him this weekend and I am so completely excited about it. I mean, here's the description for said concert:

Eric Whitacre is one of the most popular composers of our time, composing choral, band, and orchestral music that appeals to wide audiences. He’s considered to have “rock-star” status among high school and college students! The Salt Lake Choral Artists will present an evening of remarkable music from water to thunderstorms, from sleeping to flying, from children’s songs to love songs. The world premiere of a new piece by Eric Whitacre add an extra element of excitement to the evening.

How could you not be excited for something like that? So, if you're in the Salt Lake area this Saturday and you have nothing to do, I'm going to encourage you to go see this concert put on by the Salt Lake Choral Artists. You can go to their website to find out details and how to purchase tickets.

I am literally jumping out of my skin with excitement. What have you done to me, Dr. Rowher?

Oh, and that song you're listening to right now... it's a fan favorite. Just a preview for you.

Green and Yellow, Green and Yellow

Ok, really. Who cared about the actual game last night? Not me. But I do love football and it was at Cowboys Stadium. Plus, the Super Bowl is only like one of the biggest nights in Advertising. But I have to say, I was somewhat disappointed...

Until this ad showed up...

Props to you, Chrysler. You won by a landslide.

And while I didn't really care about who won, I'm going to give props to the Packers. If someone were going to win, I'm glad it was you.

Thanks For the Memories!

For some reason, I've been thinking a lot about my glory days at FMHS this week. I think it's partly due to the fact that I went back last weekend. I know... I know... that was a long time ago and most people hated high school, so the fact that I'm talking about those four years as my "glory days" may sound foreign to many of you. But I love the memories that I took away from those four years. So, this is a tribute to those years I spent at Flower Mound High School as a Jaguar and to all of those who experienced it with me.

Seussical the Musical, Sophomore Year (I was a lioness...)

Homecoming 2005, Junior Year (Chad Whatcott was my hottie date- Rockstar Couple)

The Infamous Buttsketch from Midnight Madness my Junior year.

Mound Showdown 2006 with two of my favorite people. (Four years in a row, hoe!)

I know what you're thinking. "Is that an 80-year-old woman?" No, it's me. As Ethel Peas in Thoroughly Modern Millie my Senior year. Yeah, I look good. I know.

This is one of my most favoritest people from high school. Tommy Wall. And this is us embracing at choir banquet my senior year. I miss our frequent "tree hugs," Tommy.

Prom got CRAZY! I mean, just look at us.

There is so much more I could share with you, but I'll just leave those few memories for you. Such fun times. Definitely lots of great things I'll never forget. So, thanks for that FMHS. Oh, and "Rock the Casbah!"

Think Warm Thoughts...

Two words.

Not ok.

Chris Whitley's lyrics sum up my feelings perfectly. Let me share them with you.

Indian Summer

Summer is lost now
The frost is closing in
To the cold gospel dollar
The poor man walks in sin
I can't get no entrance
The doors all in rows
I pray into the distance
Let me outta these heavy clothes

I beg
Indian summer I need some return
So hard to get warm now
And so easy to get burned
Down on the pavement the laws are learned
It's so hard to get warm where
It's so easy to get burned

When a sister called up
And said that love had broken down
I said there too much ice around here
To find no solid ground
Well I just squeezed a season
From this paper bag
I pray to the burning tires
Wrap my feet in rags

Begging
Indian summer I need some return
It's so hard to get warm now
And so easy to get burned
Down on the pavement the laws are learned
It's so hard to get warm where
It's so easy to get burned

Now the sky is empty
The street is sweating tears
Communion at the station
For a million grinding gears
Well I'm riding out this century
The harvest engines sing
From the church of mercenaries
To a naked virgin spring

I'm singing
Indian summer I need some return
It's so hard to get warm now
And so easy to get burned
Down on the pavement the laws are learned
It's so hard to get warm where
It's so easy to get burned

Hard to get warm where
It's so easy to get burned

Hello, Motivation. And Hottie.

So, I've recently become obsessed with watching this show on MTV called "I Used to be Fat." I know... I know. But it seriously is actually a good MTV show. And last week's episode literally made my jaw drop. And the trainer was rather attractive which didn't hurt. So, here I have provided the video for you. Seriously, if you want to feel motivated to go work out or eat better, watch this show. It's just insane.

Get in Loser, We're Going Tubing.

Most of the time when I see snow, I think "Blech. I hate you. I hate that I have to walk to school in you. I hate that you make me slip and almost faceplant in front of people." But Monday, Snow and I had a wonderful time with each other on my day off of school.

The Gang (Bree - and roommate and brother, Katie, Eth, Josh, McKay, and me) all went tubing up at Soldier Hollow. I'd been before up in Park City with my mom and remembered that tubing was one of the few snow-activities I enjoyed. No skills involved. Just pure fun. And you know what, IT WAS! We had a blast tubing for two hours with each other. Soaking up each other's awesomeness (I'm feeling very "Mean Girls" today). Bree was our official photographer of the day so I stole the pictures I'm about to show you from her.

And if you've never been snow-tubing before, you need to go. Seriously. It's fun. I promise.

I am struggling to come up with a song for this. Ok. I've got it. While driving up there, Josh and I were talking music and he brought up a good song, "Broken" by Seether featuring Amy Lee. So, why not. I'll make that the song for this post. This one's dedicated to you Joshy.

Check it Out!

I feel as though I'm overwhelming you with music. I'm sorry. I've just been on one of those music highs the past few days. Like when all you want to do is eat chocolate, except all I want to do is find awesome new music. Anyways, here's an interesting mash-up I ran across during my search and I thought I would share it with you. Consider it my belated Christmas/New Year's present to you!

Soundtrack To My Life

So, I've recently decided that if I could take any previously existing soundtrack and apply it to my life, it would be the soundtrack to Grey's Anatomy. I think that I love scouting out the music from the show as much as I enjoy actually watching it.

So, because I love all of you so very much, I'm going to share some of my favorite finds from the Grey's soundtrack. Don't say I never did anything for you. I'm about to enrich your iTunes library with some good stuff.

#1: "That Home" - The Cinematic Orchestra
#2: "Keep Breathing" - Ingrid Michaelson (Grey's loves Ingrid and so do I.)
#3: "Turn to Stone" - Ingrid Michaelson
#4: "Nowhere Warm" - Kate Havnevik
#5: "New Day" - Kate Havnevik
#6: "First in Line" - Matthew Mayfield
#7: "The Great Escape" - Patrick Watson
#8: "Into the Fire" - Thirteen Senses
#9: "Never Leave Your Heart Alone" - Butterfly Boucher
#10: "Bound by Love" - Gran Bel Fisher
#11: "Stay Over" - The Rescues
#12: "Ain't Nothin Wrong With That" - Robert Randolph & The Family Band

Here's a preview for one of them for you, "Never Leave Your Heart Alone." Enjoy!
